This is week 5. You know what time of the year it is. It is One room challenge time. I signed up to do my backyard redesign for this. Come say hi. All the inspo and moodboard are below. Follow me @littlepaisly on instagram to see more updates on the project. Each week, there will be a reveal of the prior week. Go to ORC Posts to see all the previous posts.

Changes vs inspiration
The box has screws on the inside to hold together and a vertical wood piece. Make sure its all level.
The crazy tile level is lower than the checkered tile.So the planter box only extends till the end of the crazy tile.
I got my carpenter to do L shape box. He used a vertical piece in the corners to hold the pieces. On one side, I have a fence so I had to add another layer of treated wood on the inside and i got a pvc pipe added for drainage.
Railway planks was something i really wnated to incorporate. the number of hours i wasted on railway plank seating was simply a wasted effort.(see above for the inspo) I agonized over so many facebook marketplace listings of planks. I wasnt sure they would last outside.
Another thing that set me against this idea is its too modern.
Here is a planter box plan I found that you can use.

Changes vs inspiration
The chair was how i measured how tall i wanted the planter. I kid you not.
Then, i also had an old planter box i measured it against.
the box was thusly created. 🙂
I made sure the crazy tile section wasnt square and therefore, the planter box cuts in and adds a visual plant element for all the rectangular line. we re routed the drip pipe as well for the concrete.
Once the box was done, i added a lot of river rocks or whatever cheap rock you can find at the bottom for drainage. Then, i added carboard boxes that i was hoarding and plant cuttings i was hoarding and i begged from neighbors. after this, i got local mulch delivered and painstakingly added this into the planter box. it was not easy.
I had originally considered the fence in the picture below but i just added a cattle panel across and secured with metal zip ties.

Changes vs inspiration
I got a variety of plants. My plan was to choose mostly native plants and drought resitant ones such as english lavedar, rosemary, spanish lavendar.
I also planted a lot of peony bulbs of 2 different colors.
My pièce de résistance is adding a few jasmine vines to the cattle panels. Some more flowering plants like echinachea and some annuals like zinnia.
I will show you final results of the planting next week.

Come back next week for all the new updates on plants, painting the box, lights and what else I have planned.
